French presses or coffee presses are the ultimate green coffee maker. Other than heating water no energy required,
and now the Toddy Maker Cold Brew Coffee Maker eliminates even that requirement. The cold brew method
eliminates many of the oils and acids found in hot brewed coffee that are not soluble at low temperatures.
Cold brew coffee is easier on the stomach for acid sensitive coffee drinkers. Opinions vary on if
cold brew leaves too much of the oil
and acid in the bean. Perhaps the most valuable feature of coffee presses
is that they give you absolute control over
the temperature of the water used for the brew, which, along with the
quality of the bean, is probably the
most important factor in the quest for the perfect cup. Bodum is still the biggest seller worldwide but AeroPress and other coffee press
manufacturers are making a name. The number of reviews for coffee
machines of all kinds indicate how
passionate people are about their coffee.

Cold water from a reservoir is heated and dripped onto coffee grounds contained within a filter assembly.
That is the essence of a drip coffeemaker. You can still find manual
drip coffeemakers but the overwhelming majority of drip coffee makers
are electric. The final result is brewed coffee deposited into a glass pot, a thermal carafe,
or an insulated travel mug. There are variations in water temperature, filter assembly design, and speed of the drip
so some drip coffeemakers do make better coffee than others, although with a little practice you can tweak any drip
coffeemaker to get it right for you. Some models are programmable. Some
drip coffeemakers like the Cuisinart grind and brew in one operation. A drip coffeemaker sits on your kitchen counter in plain sight so maybe the
deciding factor should be whether the darn thing is attractive enough to be there.

Every know-it-all at Starbucks will tell you that percolator
coffeemakers went out of style with the dinosaurs.
"Water's too hot." "Cooks the coffee." "Uses the same water over and over again." Yadda. Yadda. What they don't
get is that coffee drinking is a complete sensory experience. Tastes great is only part of it. Nothing. And I mean
nothing in the coffee world can replace the perka-perka-perka sound of a percolator. Combine that with the
anticipation
of the coffee bursting in the glass bubble on top of the percolator and the aroma of percolated coffee filling the
room and you can understand why percolators will never be out of style.

I don't care how many people went to the moon, modern technology cannot make a really good single cup of coffee from a 10 cup coffeemaker.
There are only two choices. You can pour a lot of coffee down the drain or you can get a
single cup coffeemaker. Manufacturers like Keurig take
this one cup coffeemaker thing to new heights with their Single Cup Home Brewing System. You can get packaged single servings of gourmet coffee,
tea, or cocoa so you can experiment with your one cup coffeemaker to suit your mood.

How does a vacuum coffeemaker work? Water goes in the bottom chamber. Coffee grounds go in the top chamber. Heat is applied to the bottom chamber.
Hot water in the bottom chamber rises to the top chamber and infuses with the coffee grounds. When the heat is removed from the
bottom chamber the now brewed coffee in the top chamber is pulled under vacuum back into the bottom chamber.
An electric vacuum coffee maker is more convenient and always applies the
correct amount of heat. The vacuum coffee pot is a physics experiment you can get into!
